Subject: Moving from Relief to Development

It's not too hard to motivate giving and going right after a disaster, but how do we move from short-term Band-Aids to long term, sustainable development? How can we change our relationships from provider to partner as the local church builds its own capacity to lead?

Our panelists represent three "hot spots" where our roles would now be to assist the local church in its ongoing efforts to rebuild:

Dr. Dieumeme Noelliste, a Haitian professor at Denver Seminary, is deeply involved in helping the churches of Haiti develop leadership potential and have effective influence in the public sphere 1 year after the earthquake.

Rev. Scott Lundeen, currently with Mile High Ministries, arrived in New Orleans as a church planter a month before Hurricane Katrina and will speak to the benefits and problems over 5 years of receiving short-term teams, re-building local churches, and moving communities toward redevelopment.

Rev. Thomas Sundima Simbo, who served as vice-president of evangelism and church planting for the Evangelical Fellowship of Sierra Leone throughout their civil war (1991-2001) will speak of how relief efforts can cause good OR harm, and discuss how the church is recovering 10 years on from the end of the war.

WorldVenture will also provide an update on the Japan crisis.
